Truth Be Told is an American legal/crime drama streaming television series on Apple TV+.[1] The series was created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman, based on Kathleen Barber's 2017 debut novel Are You Sleeping. Spellman also acts as executive producer and writes for the show. Unlike the book, Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer) plays the main role, as a podcaster who revisits the case that made her famous with the hope of finally getting to the truth.
In the first season, Oakland journalist Poppy Parnell restarts the true crime podcast that made her famous and reopens the 1999 murder case of Stanford professor Chuck Buhrman after new evidence suggests Warren Cave, the man she helped put behind bars, was wrongly convicted.
In the second season, Poppy investigates the murder of a photographer/filmmaker at the request of his wife Micah, an equally controversial wellness guru whose friendship with Poppy compromises her judgment.
In the third season, Poppy works with a high school principal to investigate the disappearances of several young black girls in Oakland whose cases lack mainstream media attention. Meanwhile, a mayoral candidate uses a white girl's disappearance for his campaign.
On January 3, 2018, Apple announced that it was developing a television series based on the novel Are You Sleeping by Kathleen Barber. The show was created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman who also wrote and executive produced the series as well. Other executive producers include Octavia Spencer via her Orit Entertainment, Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for their company Hello Sunshine, and Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Kristen Campo for Chernin Entertainment. On May 2, 2018, Apple announced that they had given the production a series order for a first season consisting of ten episodes.[7] On June 13, 2018, it was reported that Anna Foerster would direct the series' first episode.[8] A featurette from the series was released on November 26, 2019.[9] On March 5, 2020, Apple renewed the series for a second season,[10] which premiered on August 20, 2021.[11] On December 7, 2021, Apple renewed the series for a third season which premiered on January 20, 2023.[12]
Principal photography for the series commenced on June 25, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.[26] Filming reportedly concluded on December 12, 2018.[27] Production for the second season began in Los Angeles on October 26, 2020, after being briefly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[28] In February 2021, Leimert Park was planned to be a filming location for the second season but was delayed due to protesting against the filming.[29] Filming moved to the Arts District in Los Angeles for the duration of April 2021 and wrapped by the end of the month.[30] It was announced by Apple that third season has begun filming on April 15, 2022.
In the wake of this confession, and the truth being revealed, Micah and Poppy patch up their differences. As they hug outside, Micah allows Poppy to speak up and reveal the truth on her podcast. She apologizes for what happened to Rose, unaware that the book would blow up as fast as it would. She confirms that her and Rose will always be connected.
The lines are starting to blur, and Poppy is going to need to decide whether her friendship with Micah is more important than finding out the truth, and, quite frankly, what was Poppy thinking when she told Micah about the secret son before the event
Joshua obviously thought there was something iffy about the Sons of Ivar to leave and expose them, but is it possible they're just a big red herring to keep viewers guessing until the end of the season
The truth is, there's no telling someone how to act when they lose someone they love. Everyone reacts differently, but the ice-cold exterior from Micah throughout the episode suggested that she had these walls up to avoid being disappointed.
New to the cast for season two is Kate Hudson, who will be playing Micah Keith. Though Hudson has appeared as a guest star in a few TV shows, like Glee, this will be her first time as a lead on the small screen.
Apple TV Plus has officially given the green light for Truth Be Told season 3. Octavia Spencer will again return as Poppy Scoville, but the show is adding Maisha Closson (Claws, How to Get Away With Murder) as the director, showrunner and executive producer for season 3.
Apple TV+ has just released a teaser trailer for Season 2 of Nichelle Tramble Spellman's NAACP Image Award-winning crime thriller, Truth Be Told, starring Academy Award nominee Kate Hudson in her first lead role in a television series, and Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer, who will also serve as executive producer. Spellman serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer for the series. Following an intense and exciting first season that dove into America's obsession with true crime podcasts, it seems Season 2 will look to make the same waves, returning with a global debut on Friday, August 20, 2021.
Season 1 of the exciting crime thriller found decent success with Spencer leading the charge, and the teaser trailer should serve to get fans amped even more for the upcoming season. Truth Be Told is produced by multiple companies including Hello Sunshine, Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content. Executive producers include Spencer and Spellman, Mikkel Nørgaard, Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping for Chernin Entertainment, and Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine.
The complete first season of Truth Be Told is available to stream on Apple TV+ now, so be sure to catch up on it before the premiere of Season 2 on Friday, August 20, 2021. You can check out the exciting and mysterious teaser trailer below!
Apple TV+ has ordered another season of the Octavia Spencer-starring and produced drama series Truth Be Told. The series was created and run by Nichelle Tramble Spellman. Spencer produces alongside Hello Sunshine, Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content. Truth Be Told season 2 does not yet have a release date.
From the sound of things, Truth Be Told season 2 will be going in an entirely new direction. Though Spencer is set to return as Poppy, the season will be covering an entirely new case. This likely means that Paul, Lizzy Caplan, and several other cast members will not return, however, that has not yet been confirmed. Either way, retaining Spencer was probably enough to Truth Be Told to continue at Apple TV+
One of the first Apple TV+ original series that premiered shortly after the streaming service's launch was the crime thriller Truth Be Told. The series is created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman and starring Octavia Spencer, with both women also serving as executive producers. While the first season featured an all-star cast and impressive production values, critics were largely dismissive of the new series failing to stand apart from its counterparts. Nearly two full years later, Truth Be Told has returned for its second season, providing a more gripping and personal story than its preceding season, but with some of its bad habits still evident.
The first season of Truth Be Told worked best when it showed Poppy, the self-assured investigator, balancing family drama with the dangerous cases that she examined. Given Poppy's lifelong connection to Micah, portrayed by main cast newcomer Kate Hudson, this makes the mystery Poppy is facing this time around much more personal and the show is all the better for it. Much of the returning cast gets more room to grow into their roles and the overall production remains top-shelf, with the cinematography and art design noticeably improved from the drabber, more unassuming presentation in Season 1.
Where Truth Be Told Season 2 falters is in its overconfidence with its execution. From extended monologues to sequences staged like arthouse music videos, there is a definite level of pretension throughout the season -- especially in moments that bookend episodes for dramatic emphasis. Like Spencer, Hudson performs best when her character is out of her element; but, those moments, at least early on, are few and far in between as she cooly moves through scenes. Hudson's detachment puts distance between the proceedings, especially as the show tries to keep the audience invested in the mystery unfolding before their eyes.
The second season of the drama series, which was renewed in March, will see Spencer reprise her role as Poppy Parnell, a podcaster who reopened the murder case that made her a national sensation and was forced to come face-to-face with the man she may have mistakenly helped to put behind bars (played by Aaron Paul). The events of the new season will unfold around a new case.
Apple TV+ today released it's new teaser trailer for the second season of the drama \"Truth Be Told\" that will launch on August 20th with only a single episode available which is disappointing once again.
Starring and executive produced by Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer, the new season of the anthology drama also stars Academy Award nominee Kate Hudson in her first lead role in a television series.
In season two, investigative reporter turned true crime podcaster Poppy Parnell (Spencer) dives into a new case that deeply involves her childhood friend, media mogul Micah Keith (Hudson). As developments unfold, their lifelong friendship is put to the ultimate test.
In addition to Hudson, joining for season two are series regulars Christopher Backus, Alona Tal, David Lyons, Andre Royo, Merle Dandridge and Mychala Faith Lee. Returning cast includes Mekhi Phifer, Michael Beach, Ron Cephas Jones, Tracie Thoms, Haneefah Wood, Tami Roman and Katherine LaNasa.
Octavia Spencer's Apple TV+ series, Truth Be Told returns for another season and this time joining the cast of the show is also Kate Hudson. The show which has Spencer starring as well as producing it finds Hudson's character of Micah Keith making a dramatic entry as one of Poppy Parnell's (Octavia Spencer) childhood friends. With this character, Hudson stars in her first major role for a TV series and in a recent interview, the actress opened up about why she chose to star in the show and also spoke about what fans can expect from her character on the show. 59ce067264
